Canons shake things up
Quebec - Mired in a 6 game losing streak, Les Canons de Quebec have made some major changes. Les Canons first acquired Colby Armstrong from Acadia in exchange for prospects Blake Geoffrion, Julien Sprunger and a 4th round pick in the draft.
"Colby is a guy we have been trying to acquire since I took over the Canons," said GM Corey Graham. "My first call upon joing the team was to Guy in Acadia, he basicaly told me no chance back then. Luckily though I dogged him enough to get this deal done. Did we overpay? Possibly, we really like what Geoffrion has done this season in Wisconsin, but Colby is signed long term, will step in right now and will help us mature as a team."
In a second move Les Canons have aquired defensemen Denis Grebeshkov, and Sean O'Donnell from Winnipeg. Heading west are defensemen Roman Hamrlik and Phillippe Boucher.
"This deal is all about long term thinking. We lose a real good piece in Roman, and we wish them both well, but we needed to have some bodies here for next season. Phillippe had informed us he plans to retire at the end of the season. Denis is an RFA, but we will resign him, he has committed to playing in North America next season, at least, and we hope he stays long term. And Sean is a vetern that can still play and will help our young guys. This deal should also help us from a salary standpoint."
The Canons next home game is tomorrow against Kansas City. Tickets are available at Canonshockey.com
