Early season success - Grunge sit atop the World Conferenceby Phil Lesage | December 10, 2018, 6:25 AM ET
Coming into the season, the Seattle Grunge forward ranks were riddled with injuries. Melker Karlsson, Cody Eakins, and Colton Sissons came out of the pre-season with serious injuries, and none have yet to play a game this season. So to expect the team to achieve early success is surprising. When asked about the start GM Lesage, smiled and nodded - "heck yeah I am surprised by our record, however, coming into the season my objective was to ice a competitive team and maybe sneak into a playoff spot. So when you ice a competitive team the chances of winning improve. I could have built a team that struggled on a nightly basis, but that would not be fair to our great fans."
Due to the strong start, it appears that Lesage has set his sights a little higher as he pulled off a trade with the Brandon Wheat Kings and acquired 2 solid forwards in Tyler Johnson and Troy Brouwer. Unfortunately, in order to make the deal, Colton Sissons was sent to Brandon. In Johnson, the Grunge acquired a versatile and offensively talented forward and he will slot into one of the top two lines. Adding Johnson should add some offensive pop both 5 on 5 and the PP. Brouwer adds grit and defensive awareness and will fit beautifully on the 3rd line.
With these additions, the forward lines (once healthy will look as follows)
Palmieri-Little-Panik (Panik could be swapped out with Johnson)
The team has a couple of days off before their next game against Brno. A team dinner is planned for tomorrow night at Butcher`s Grill & Pasta.
Can this early season success continue for the Seattle? The team, the fans, and this reporter certainly hope so.
