Krunch set to play in record 5th League Finalsby Kirk MacRae | June 11, 2018, 3:57 PM ET
A rebuild that seemingly had no end. A broken playoff promise the previous year. Over a decade since the last playoff series win.
The start of the season was not kind to the Krunch, and for a while it looked like more of the same and another crack at a 3rd consecutive draft lottery win.
"Things were not going as planned. I had made some big acquisitions in the off-season and expected this year we would be a competitive playoff team." said GM Kirk MacRae
"Anderson was not giving us what we needed from a starter and we had to shake it up. So long time Captain Jason Spezza was traded for a pick and Radko Gudas and Craig Anderson were shipped to the Metropolitans to get a new starter Corey Crawford."
"Things improved but not as well as we needed them too and we started having talks with some GMs on off-loading more players and looking to the future."
The players heard the message and reponded. The very next day the Krunch went on a tear having a near perfect record for the next month. They would go on to secure the 7th playoff spot in the World Conference, upset 2 heavily favored teams in back to back game 7s and then clinch a Conference title for a record 5th time.
Now the Krunch are back in the finals facing off against a new opponent the Brandon Wheat Kings for the ultimate prize in hockey!
