A valid pro roster will have exactly 20 players dressed, and must have the following minimums at each position:
The maximum number of players on the Pro Roster is 25 (5 scratches). Players on two-way contracts may be sent to the farm roster when not in use, and may be subject to waivers.
A valid farm roster will consist of a minimum of 6 players on two-way contracts:
Players from the farm roster may be recalled to the pro roster at any time.
Players owned by a team but who do not have player ratings remain "in the system" for their teams. Players "in the system" must be under the age of 31, otherwise they are deemed to be "retired" and the team no longer retains their rights.
Players "in the system" do not have ratings, thus cannot be used on the pro or farm rosters.
In the event that injuries prevent a team from icing the minimums required for the Pro and Farm rosters, a team may call up a prospect from within their system and sign him to a 1-year, $1,500,000 contract, foregoing the standard entry-level and re-entry contracts. The player will be given provisional ratings of 50 across the board, and will remain on the pro roster until the end of the season (regular season and playoffs). The player is then subject to standard re-signing rules (if rated the following season) or will be returned to the system list (if younger than 31).
