The SICHL uses SimonT Hockey Simulator (STHS) to simulate games.
The following screenshot shows the settings used to simulate games during regular season and playoff play.

For the annual All-Star game, scoring and shots will be increased, while penalties will be decreased.
Players are rated based on their previous season in the National Hockey League. All NHL players who played a minimum of one game in the previous NHL season will receive a rating for the current SICHL season.
Players have an overall rating (OV) which is an aggregate representation of players' overall skill, but this rating is not used by the simulator. The OV rating varies depending on other simulator options.
Player ratings will be provided by a third party. The Commissioner will review available thid party rating sources when they become available during the SICHL off-season, and will publish the chosen re-rates prior to lifting the off-season trade freeze.

The age of a player in the SICHL is calculated as the age of that player on January 1st of the current season, minus one (i.e. in the 2000-2001 season: if a player will be 19 on January 1, 2001, his SICHL age would be 18 for the 2000-2001 season). This reflects the fact that ratings in the SICHL are based on the previous NHL season.
Occasionally players will change positions during re-rates (usually because of a change in their position in the NHL), or simply have the incorrect position listed on an SICHL roster. At the request of the General Manager of such a player, the position can be updated. A player's new position must be supported by an approved resource:
In the event that an individual who played at least one NHL game in the previous NHL season does not receive a rating by the third-party ratings provider, the Board of Governors will rate the player at the request of the General Manager that holds the player's rights. The Board of Governors will rate the player based on a comparable SICHL player and factoring in the player's previous ratings (if available).
