Oslo Vikings (1) vs. St. Louis Spartans (3)
PredictionsMichel Bourassa: Vikings in 7 Matt Burch: Now for the game I didn't predict. Not even a little bit. The Spartans were my upset special in the first round, and now they're making me look like a stooge after manhandling the predictably (though not by me) futile playoff flounderers, the Philadelphia Fire Ants. On the flip side, you have the Vikings who appear to be throwing every series in the beginning only to run the stakes up and crush their opponent in the end. And by 'the end', I mean literally. In both of the first two rounds they waited until the last period of the last game to remove all doubt that they would lose. That's all fine and dandy for one series, but two? And potentially three or four? Doubtful. I don't think the Vikings have another long series in them, and the Spartans have proven they're more than ready to hoist the Cup. Spartans in 5 Guy Flaming: Vikings in 6 Gary Graves: Spartans in 7 Kasim Husain: Apparently the Vikings like doing things the hard way. Beginning with a comeback win in game 7 in the first round against the unheralded Riders, and nearly letting a 3-1 advantage slip away and finally finishing things off against a never-say-die Las Vegas squad, Oslo will look to continue their gutsy ways in what should be a see-saw battle between the first and second highest-scoring teams in the SICHL. Only one thing is for certain about this match-up - neither Biron nor Nabokov come out of it with improved numbers. Vikings in 7 Mark MacRae: Unlike the teams in the Canadian Conference final, these two have really quite small goal differentials so far in these playoffs. We should expect lots of high-scoring, close games and hopefully a long series. It's hard to ignore the top of the stats leaderboards, but if I could offer some advice to the Spartans coaching staff, it would be shut down the Vikings top line. Do that and the series is yours for the taking. Spartans in 7 Don Morrison: This series is the Vikings super strong forwards vs the Spartans strong forwards and better goaltending. I think Pronger will tip the scales in the Vikings favor and Rick Nash , Alexander Ovechkin and Patrick Marleau is just to strong. Vikings in 6 Eric Schneider: Okay, apparently Kasim's trying to maximize his earnings this post-season, so who am I to argue? The Spartans look incredibly overmatched here, and Oslo doesn't have the same history of futility as Philly. Vikings in 7 Henry Skey: Vikings in 6 |
