2018-19 Predictions

Well with the season about to begin I figured why not show off how little I know about the sport by making some predictions!

Stanley Cup: Winnipeg (I really don't want this to be true)
East Champs: Tampa

Hart: MacKinnon
Norris: Josi
Vezina: Hellebuyck
(I don't really care about the other awards but feel free to make predictions)

Edmonton: Will miss the playoffs, again.
Toronto: Will trade Nylander for a defenceman (even if the holdout ends soon).
First coach fired: Guy Boucher (Because, Melnyk)

Playing the odds here:

Cup Final: NSH/TOR, with NSH winningConn Smythe will go to some surprising middle-6 forward, let's say Turris.

President's Trophy: TBL

Hart, Art Ross, Lindsay: McDavid will win the big'uns after dragging the Oilers into the playoffs, where they'll get bounced in the first round by a team with some actual defencemen (looking at NSH/SJ/STL/WPG).

Vezina: Bobrovsky becomes the first modern-era goalie to win it after being traded mid-season, turning another strong campaign with CBJ into some seriously gaudy numbers with "mystery-good-team-needs-goalie."  I'll say Philly, 'cuz that'd be hilarious in so many ways.

Norris: Hedman takes it, in part due to vote splitting between Burns and Karlsson, who both put up big numbers.

Adams: Brind'Amour gets the Canes into the playoffs and wins the "new coach on a surprising team" award.

Richard: Laine's busting out and cracking 50.

Calder: I want to vote for my boy Pettersson.  So I will.  Alien all the way.

Selke: The Patrice Bergeron trophy will be awarded to none other than... Patrice Bergeron.

I like to double up on these predictions, because it's so damn hard to separate my heart from my head, SO...

My head predicts:

Stanley Cup Final:

Los Angeles Kings / Flyers.  Basically the two teams I'd least like to see in the final, although it's a close tie between the Flyers and Penguins.  Kings annoy the hell out of me, so it won't surprise me to see them in the final, especially with Kovy.

President's Trophy.  Tampa, easy.

Conf finals:  Tampa vs Philly, LA vs Nashville.

MVP:  McJesus, because he has a 90% chance of winning even if he plays 20 games and his team misses the playoffs....  Huh

Selke  boring Kopitar or snoozefest Bergeron?    Angry

Norris: Doughty.  Why not?  I hate him.

Conn Smythe:  Doughty.  Why  not?  I hate him.

Calder:  Andreas Johnsson.  I traded him away to help last season.  Now JVR and Bozak are gone with Nylander holding out, here comes AJ to swoop in and score 30-30 and gut me.  I'll never trade a prospect ever again.

My HEART Predicts:

St. Louis Blues / Florida.  Blues for obvious reasons, I'd just like to see Florida go to boost hockey in the hockey market that isn't Tampa, and Luongo would be fun in the Cup I think.

President's Trophy.  Tampa, easy.

Conf finals:  Tampa vs Florida, Stl vs Winnipeg.  Unlikely for in-division teams to all vie for the conference, but hey, it's possible!

MVP:  Crosby.  I don't like him, but i do like him when he beats out entitled Connor McDouchey for an award.  Wink

Norris: I'm going to go off the board here and say Ekblad finally makes himself known as an elite D.

Conn Smythe:  Off the board again, but the heart and soul of the Blues is Jaden Schwartz!

Calder:  Toughest choice for me, honestly.  It's between the Canes, Sabres, and Lias Andersson for me.  Between 5 players: Andersson, Mittelstadt, Necas, Dahlin, or Svech. Life on the line, Andersson.

Oh and the Selke for the second part would have to go to Barkov.

Edit - forgot to predict the cup winners in my alternate predictions:   Kings and Blues!
