I'm interested by something I'm seeing in this thread and in the old one that inspired it. Some of you are putting specific draft picks into your lineups in specific positions. Does that mean you are drafting with the strategy of fulfilling team needs first or best player available? I'm just curious about draft strategies (I mean we've all seen mine, trade picks away and when drafting take guys I like in a chaotic manner)

In my case it reflects my guess at which players will be the BPA where I'll end up slotted to pick with my two 1st rounders this year. I certainly can't guarantee Mac or Jack thanks to my recent run, though, so my calculations may be somewhat off, too...

Anthony Duclair - Jason Spezza - Oliver Bjorkstrand
Brayden Schenn - Ryan Nugent-Hopkins - Nikolai Goldobin
Kerby Rychel - Kevin Hayes - Nick Spaling
Zack Smith - Vladislav Namestnikov - Dwight King

Cam Fowler - Aaron Ekblad
Ryan Murray - Nick Leddy
Xavier Ouellet - Radko Gudas

Pekka Rinne
Oscar Dansk

I tried not to reach too far, Bjorkstrand/Goldobin are only ones who haven't been in the NHL yet.

Goalies have completely changed and Goldobin/Duclair will turn into Tarasenko/Matthews but the rest is close and D is spot on. (Sustr/Wideman might beat out Ouellet)

Without any signings and knowing exact ratings my best guess is:

Schenn-Matthews-Tarasenko
Hayes-RNH-Spezza
Namestnikov-Smith-Bjorkstrand
King-Graovac-Bellemare

Fowler-Gudas
Leddy-Ekblad
Murray-Sustr

Anderson
Greiss

Forward talent completely drops off at the 4th line but this will be the best team I have iced in possibly a decade.

Edit: Other than trades and signings here are the players I was off on.
-Ekblad: Had an off year dealing with concussion and needs to bounce back to prove he is a top pairing guy
-Bjorkstrand: Looks like he will be a scoring RW for CBJ but he's not a 1RW that I had him pegged to be by now.
-Rychel: Hasn't cracked the NHL yet. Still hopeful he can be a middle 6 PWF.

This made me realize I have all my future FPs on the same 3-yr deal.  Will have to choose between Nash, Weber, Suter and Fleury (franchising this year).  Damnit.

Couture - Tavares - Nyquist
Teravainen - Duchene - Kucherov
Ennis - Vey - Brown/Bozon
Bleackley/Larsson - Hamilton - Malone

Weber - Bogosian
Gudbranson - Morrissey
Bowey - Pelech/Ness

F. Andersen
Poulin

'bout 50/50:

Couture - Tavares - Kucherov
Nyquist - Toews - Hossa
Kuhnhackl - Teravainen - Brown
Larsson - Sgarbossa - Labanc

Weber - Carlson
Morrissey - Hunwick
Dekeyser - Bogosian

Bobrovsky
???Langhamer???

-7 predicted forwards -- Duchene traded for Toews, Hossa signed and franchised, Ennis and Vey traded, then the rest just prospects who've developed.  Didn't anticipate Kucherov outperforming Nyquist, that's a pleasant surprise.
-3 of the predicted d-men -- Gudbranson traded for Carlson, Dekeyser and Hunwick acquired in trades.  Biggest issue is that I'd penciled in Bogosian on my top line.  Whoops.
-Goalies were completely off -- Andersen went in the Carlson trade, Poulin's in the KHL, and now I'm relying on Bobrovsky.

I knot alee fathom naval terms.  Avast!

Monarchs 2017-18 Lineup

Ovechkin - Malkin - Does it really matter?
Gusev - Stoll - Toffoli
Matteau - Cammarata - Lehkonen
Ferland - Rupert - Lowry

Josi - Savard
Dietz - Dougherty
Vanier - Wallman

Ortio
Binnington / Lehner

I am probably REALLY over estimating some (all) of these prospects! Maybe I should stop trading away draft picks....after I win a championship.

Also I anticipate spending money in free agency in the next couple of years as well as actually using  a first round pick or two which will change this projected lineup substantially.

I messed up. Stoll won't be part of my team but Phil Kessel will still be around.

Oh boy! Only two (maybe 3) of the forwards I projected to be in my lineup will be. Only 2 of the defencemen and one of those is a long shot. And let's just not discuss the goaltending!

Apparently I have been way more active on the trade front than I realised.

Nobody from this projection remains. Oh well. Change is good.

Acadia Golden Bears 2017-18

Chris Kreider - Claude Giroux - Jordan Eberle
2015 1st rounder (Rantanen) - Ryan O'Reilly - James Neal
Beau Bennett - Sean Couturier - Troy Brouwer
Reilly Smith -  Scott Laughton - Riley Barber
Nic Kerdiles - Andrew Copp - Hudson Fasching

Jacob Trouba - Dustin Byfuglien
Rasmus Ristolainen - Mark Pysyk
Jared Spurgeon - Shayne Gostisbehere
Brayden McNabb - Brandon Hickey

Braden Holtby
Martin Jones / Jacob Markstrom
Eric Comrie / Tristan Jarry

And for the future me looking back on this shaking his head: No, you were not drunk when you wrote this.

Actually...that's not bad forecasting on my part. Most of the guys I "missed" on are actually still part of the team but still on the farm. Spurgeon, Pysyk and Jones were traded.

Please, DO feed the Bears...draft picks.
